Understanding the purpose of this whole culture building exercise is key to raising the awareness in the work place as well as achieving that critical level of acceptance from those who will be assisting with the heavy lifting on this project. If you are preaching one thing but those who you want to ‘buy in’ aren’t listening then it all become ‘noise’ very quickly.

The question is, how do you get staff to understand the purpose of what you are laying down?  Here’s a few points on how to get it done with minimal fuss.

1. Create your mission – one paragraph – concise and clear
2. Document the mission – Display it visibly in the office
3. Brainstorm your list of values that ‘define YOU’. Trust your gut.
4. Involve the staff – what is their list of values. Discuss and agree on 5 – 6 values.
5. Document these Values – Display them visibly in the office.
6. Create a Cultural Contract. Have all staff agree to it and have them sign it.
